Tech and retail firms report mixed quarterly earnings in Japan and Taiwan
Various companies in Japan and Taiwan have reported diverse quarterly financial results, heavily influenced by AI demand and rising costs.
In Taiwan, memory module manufacturer ADATA reported a record-breaking nine-month revenue of 117.31 billion TWD, driven by high demand for AI servers and data centers. Similarly, ATP Electronics saw its third-quarter revenue reach 16.07 billion TWD, a 291% year-on-year increase, as it expands into enterprise-grade SSDs and industrial storage to meet AI computing needs.
In Japan, note Inc. reported a 33.2% increase in sales for its third quarter, with operating profit surging 567% due to the expansion of its AI-related business. Conversely, Ichibanya saw a 17.2% decline in consolidated operating profit for its second quarter, attributed to rising ingredient and logistics costs. San-A reported increased revenue and profit, bolstered by strong seasonal demand and tourism.
Other Japanese firms faced challenges: Zuiko reported an operating loss of 222 million yen, while Yamato International revised its earnings forecast downward to a deficit, citing poor sales in its men's crocodile line. Fukushima Printing also expects a significant decline in operating profit for its upcoming fiscal year due to price competition and raw material costs.
