OptQC raises 7 billion yen for optical quantum computing development
OptQC, a developer of optical quantum computers, has raised 7 billion yen in a Series A2 funding round. The round was led by NTT and included 21 participants, including major corporations and venture capital firms such as Kyocera, Mitsubishi Electric, and KDDI.
Through this funding, OptQC has also entered into a capital and business alliance with NTT to accelerate the practical application of fault-tolerant optical quantum computers capable of performing large-scale calculations while correcting errors. The company's total funding, including previous rounds and subsidies, exceeds 20 billion yen.
OptQC is developing quantum computers that use light as the information carrier. Unlike methods requiring extreme cryogenic temperatures, the optical approach operates at room temperature and standard pressure, which reduces energy consumption and control complexity. The company aims to scale its technology toward a next-generation machine with a computing capacity of 10,000 qubits.
