Oracle and AstraZeneca partner to use AI for clinical trial recruitment

Oracle and AstraZeneca have entered into a non-binding agreement to explore how artificial intelligence and real-world data can address challenges in clinical trial recruitment. The collaboration aims to help clinicians identify eligible trial candidates earlier, thereby improving trial access and efficiency.

The partnership intends to create a continuous learning model where insights from clinical research and routine patient care inform future study designs, safety monitoring, and patient care. AstraZeneca will provide scientific and therapeutic expertise, while Oracle will contribute health data, cloud computing, AI, analytics, and clinical workflow capabilities.

Initial disease areas targeted for exploration include oncology, respiratory and immunology, rare diseases, and cardiovascular, renal, and metabolic diseases. The companies plan to establish shared governance and reusable technical components to assess whether these AI-driven approaches can be scaled across different geographies and medical fields.
