Oracle cuts 21,000 jobs globally, adds 500 layoffs in Romania
Oracle announced a 13% reduction of its global workforce, decreasing full‑time staff from about 162,000 to roughly 141,000 by May 2026 – a cut of approximately 21,000 jobs. The company said the downsizing is driven by the adoption of artificial‑intelligence technologies, a shift toward cloud services and the need to fund large AI‑focused data‑center investments. Restructuring costs rose to $1.84 billion for the fiscal year.
In Romania, Oracle carried out a second wave of layoffs in June 2026, informing about 500 employees that their positions were terminated. This follows a prior reduction of around 400 jobs in late 2025. The Romanian operations, which employ about 4,000 people across three entities, posted revenue growth of 7.5% to 1.79 billion lei in 2025 but posted a combined net loss of 34.8 million lei. Affected staff receive two months’ garden‑leave plus severance ranging from three to twelve months’ salary, depending on tenure.
Overall, Oracle’s fiscal year showed record revenue of $67.4 billion, up 17% year‑over‑year, driven by its cloud infrastructure and AI‑native services, even as the company reshapes its workforce worldwide.
