Oracle cloud revenue grows 121% amid massive data center expansion
Oracle Corporation is experiencing significant growth in its cloud infrastructure business, reporting a 121% year-over-year increase in cloud revenue to $7.4 billion for its fiscal first quarter. This surge is driven by high customer demand and a massive expansion of data center capacity.
To support this growth, Oracle has substantially increased its capital expenditures, which rose to $28.5 billion for the quarter compared to $8.5 billion a year earlier. The company also holds $288 billion in additional lease commitments primarily tied to data centers, which are not reflected on its balance sheet. While Bank of America Securities maintains a Buy rating with a $240 price target, noting the scale of contracted business, other analysts have raised concerns regarding the company's capital intensity, negative free cash flow, and long-term lease obligations.
