Oracle secures wind energy deals to power Texas AI data centers

Oracle has announced a series of renewable energy investments in Texas to support its expanding AI and cloud infrastructure. The company aims to match 100 percent of the electricity used by its AI data centers with carbon-free energy by 2035.

Through agreements with multiple suppliers, including ENGIE, Clearway Energy, RWE, and Scout Clean Energy, Oracle expects to secure over 1.7 GW of electricity from wind energy projects. These projects will supply the Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) grid, which powers Oracle’s AI data center in Abilene. One specific agreement with ENGIE North America will deliver up to 568 MW of wind-generated electricity to Oracle’s Texas operations.

The renewable energy generated is estimated to avoid approximately 1.8 million metric tons of CO2 emissions annually, providing enough electricity to power the equivalent of over 525,000 U.S. homes. Oracle executives stated that these investments are intended to meet growing energy demands responsibly without shifting costs to consumers or the state.
