Oradea to commemorate Iosif Vulcan, founder of Familia magazine
The Greco-Catholic Diocese of Oradea will host a commemoration for Iosif Vulcan on Tuesday, September 8, marking 119 years since his passing. The ceremony is scheduled to begin at 9:30 AM at the Rulikowski Municipal Cemetery in Oradea.
The event will include a Parastas service and the laying of wreaths, with the presence of Virgil Bercea, the Greco-Catholic Bishop of Oradea. Writer and publicist Florin Ardelean is expected to speak about Vulcan’s cultural legacy.
Iosif Vulcan was a prominent lawyer, editor, and academician, best known as the founder of the magazine ‘Familia’ in 1865. He played a significant role in Romanian culture, notably publishing the work of Mihai Eminescu after suggesting the name change from Eminovici to Eminescu.
