Oral care trends and orthodontic advancements in Japan

A survey of Oggi readers highlights growing awareness of oral hygiene and preventive dentistry in Japan. Approximately half of respondents brush their teeth three times a day, while 50% use dental floss or interdental brushes daily. Over 70% of participants visit a dental clinic at least once every six months for maintenance, indicating a strong trend toward preventive care. The most prominent concern among respondents is tooth discoloration, leading many to adjust dietary habits, such as using straws for coffee or choosing white wine to minimize staining.

In addition to daily hygiene, interest in aesthetic dental treatments is rising. Invisalign, a clear aligner system developed in the United States, is noted for its ability to design smiles with minimal discomfort. Dr. Kota Fujita of Fujita Dental Clinic emphasizes that modern orthodontic interest has shifted from simple tooth alignment to the overall impression of the mouth, including the smile line and facial profile. Digital technology is increasingly used to create personalized treatment plans that aim to enhance both dental function and facial aesthetics.
