Oral health and dental industry standards gain international focus

The dental industry and oral health initiatives are gaining significant attention through international standardization and public health advocacy. At the Extra G7 event in Ancona, Fondazione ANDI emphasized the critical link between oral health and general systemic well-being. In collaboration with the Italian Red Cross, Rotary, and Unilever, the foundation operated a mobile dental clinic that provided check-ups to over 120 patients, prioritizing children under 14 and seniors over 65.

On the economic and regulatory front, the Italian dental industry has seen substantial growth, with production valued at over 1.35 billion euros and exports accounting for approximately 70% of turnover. To support global standards, the ISO/TC 106 “Dentistry” technical committee held its annual meeting in Rome, bringing together 350 delegates from 44 countries to develop international dental standards.

These developments coincide with World Health Organization data indicating that oral diseases affect over 3.5 billion people globally. The WHO has established guidelines aimed at achieving universal health coverage for oral health by 2030 to address the high prevalence of conditions like dental caries.
