Oral health impacts dental aesthetics and cardiovascular wellness

Oral health is increasingly recognized as a critical component of systemic well-being, impacting both aesthetics and internal organ function. Regarding dental aesthetics, specialists from the Cleveland Clinic note that teeth whitening can be safe when using appropriate products like whitening toothpastes. These products often utilize ingredients such as hydrogen peroxide, carbamide peroxide, or baking soda to remove surface stains, though they offer more gradual results compared to professional clinical treatments.

Beyond aesthetics, there is a significant scientific link between oral inflammation and cardiovascular health. Dr. Marcela Guerrero Moyano, a periodontics specialist and academic at Universidad Andrés Bello, explains that periodontitis—a chronic inflammatory disease affecting the tissues supporting the teeth—can contribute to systemic inflammation. When gums are inflamed or bleeding, bacteria and their products may enter the bloodstream, potentially participating in processes related to vascular health and increasing the risk of heart attacks and strokes.
