Orang Asli communities seek housing aid in Budget 2027

Orang Asli communities in Pos Bihai, Gua Musang, are calling for government intervention to address deteriorating housing conditions. Residents report that many homes, some built as far back as 2004 and 2005, are suffering from structural decay, including broken roofs, rusted zinc sheets, and rotting wooden or bamboo structures.

Apek Asud, chairman of the Kampung Tendrik Orang Asli Village Development and Security Committee, noted that the aging designs used by the Department of Orang Asli Development are no longer sufficient. The lack of space and structural integrity has forced some residents to live separately from their extended families.

In response to these needs, Galas State Assemblyman Datuk Mohd. Syahbuddin Hashim suggested that at least five new houses should be constructed annually. Community members are looking toward the upcoming Budget 2027 for specific allocations to repair or replace these dilapidated dwellings with more durable stone houses.
