Orange, Australia arson suspect denied bail after house fire

A 30‑year‑old man, identified as Kyia Jersov, appeared via video link at Orange Local Court on July 15. He faces multiple charges including entering a dwelling with intent to commit an indictable offence, damaging property by fire and possession of stolen goods. The prosecution presented CCTV footage and items recovered from Jersov at the time of his arrest. The fire, which broke out on July 10 at a two‑storey house on Franklin Road in Orange, NSW, left the property significantly damaged and destroyed a vehicle. The home, being renovated by Isabella and Bastien Fougerolle and their three‑year‑old son, was unoccupied and no injuries were reported. Police investigations continue, with no electricity or gas connected at the time. The family, whose house was uninsured, lost hundreds of thousands of dollars in equity and now faces demolition and cleanup costs.
