Orange Business selected for EU secure communications network

Orange Business has been selected as the technological partner for the TESTA-EIRIS (Enhanced Infrastructure for Reliable Interconnectivity and Security) project. This initiative aims to modernize the European Union’s digital communications infrastructure by creating a private, isolated, and highly secure backbone network for public administrations across Member States.

Working alongside the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Digital Services (DG DIGIT), Orange Business will provide core network services, including Layer 2 and Layer 3 backbone services. The architecture will feature at least 12 Points of Presence (PoPs) distributed across five strategic European regions, aiming for 99.999% availability. The system is designed to integrate private backbone infrastructure with cloud connectivity and Virtual Private Network (VPN) technology to facilitate secure data exchange between EU institutions, agencies, and national administrations.

To maintain the ecosystem, the company will provide technological tools through Network Operations Centres (NOC) and Security Operations Centres (SOC). The project is intended to bolster the digital sovereignty and resilience of the European bloc by establishing a trusted digital ecosystem capable of addressing evolving cyber threats.
