Orange Days initiatives address violence against women in Germany
Various organizations and local authorities in Germany are organizing events for the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women on November 25. The 'Orange Days' campaign, running from November 6 to December 10, aims to raise awareness about domestic violence, sexual harassment, and structural inequality.
In Hamm, the program includes sexual health counseling, discussions on legal rights following criminal complaints, and community events involving police, women's associations, and civil society. This year, UN Women Germany is emphasizing the responsibility of men and boys to act as role models in preventing discrimination and violence.
In Schneverdingen, the documentary 'Azza – Dem Patriarchat davonfahren' will be screened. The film follows a woman who escapes a violent marriage in Saudi Arabia, highlighting the legal and personal hurdles faced by women seeking independence. Local support services, such as 'Frauen helfen Frauen' and gender equality officers, provide resources and counseling for those experiencing domestic violence.
