Međimurje Cuisine Festival celebrates traditional regional culinary heritage

The Međimurje Cuisine Festival was held in Čakovec at the Scheier building, focusing on preserving traditional regional dishes and culinary customs. Organized by renowned chef Slađana Zadravec, the event showcased local heritage through traditional recipes and dishes that represent the identity of the Međimurje region. Local officials, including the deputy prefect of Međimurje County and the mayor of Čakovec, supported the initiative to protect gastronomic heritage.

In addition to regional celebrations, various culinary traditions and historical recipes are highlighted across the region. This includes 17th-century English cheesecake recipes from Robert May’s ‘The Accomplisht Cook’ and various traditional desserts like apple pies, chocolate cakes, and seasonal specialties such as roasted chestnuts and pickled cabbage. These recipes emphasize the importance of using specific ingredients, such as heirloom cabbage varieties and rose water, to maintain authentic flavors and textures.
