Orange juice linked to vascular health benefits in clinical study

A clinical study has investigated the cardiovascular benefits of consuming 330 ml of 100 percent orange juice daily. Researchers found that the citrus fruit contains hesperidin, a natural polyphenol that influences genes associated with healthy blood vessels and circulation. Dr. Christine Morand, research director at the French institute INRAE, noted that these bioactive substances reach the body and affect genetic mechanisms to create a vessel-friendly environment.

Despite the sugar content, the study observed no negative impacts on body weight, waist circumference, blood sugar, insulin, or cholesterol levels in participants. However, nutritional experts caution that while juices and smoothies provide nutrients, they cannot fully replace whole fruit. Liquid consumption lacks the fiber and satiety provided by chewing whole fruits, and drinking juice can lead to higher sugar intake more quickly than eating the fruit itself.
