Orange man sentenced for attempted unregistered firearm sale

Scott Michael McDonald, 38, was sentenced in Orange Local Court following an attempted sale of an unregistered Tokyo Marui Colt 1911 airsoft pistol. The investigation began after the Central West Proactive Crime Team monitored firearms offences involving an associate of McDonald in March 2026.

An intercepted telephone conversation revealed McDonald and an associate acting as facilitators for the sale of the gel blaster. During the transaction, $4,950 was transferred between parties, but the sale was ultimately cancelled by the buyer.

Police discovered evidence of the transaction during a search warrant execution in Orange on April 9, recovering videos of the firearm being disassembled with McDonald's voice in the background. McDonald acknowledged the existence of the pistol to police, stating he was supplying it as a favor to an associate.
