Orange negotiates acquisition of 70% stake in Telecel Ghana
Orange is in negotiations to acquire a 70% stake in Telecel Ghana, a move aimed at expanding its footprint into Anglophone Africa. The transaction is estimated to cost approximately 500 million euros.
If the deal is finalized, Orange would immediately gain access to nearly 9 million new customers. This acquisition aligns with the company’s ‘Trust the Future’ strategic plan, which targets an additional 40 million customers by 2028. Orange is already established in 18 African and Middle Eastern countries.
The Ghanaian government currently holds a 30% minority stake in Telecel Ghana, and the finalization of the sale is strictly contingent upon explicit approval from Ghanaian authorities. Meanwhile, Telecel Ghana is preparing to launch its own 5G network by December 2026 following the recent allocation of new frequencies by local regulators.
