Orange Romania to launch 5G Standalone network this autumn

Orange Romania has announced the commercial launch of its 5G Standalone (5G SA) network this autumn. Unlike existing non-standalone networks that rely on 4G infrastructure, 5G SA operates independently, offering lower latency, more stable connections, and improved energy efficiency.

A key feature of this rollout is Network Slicing, which allows the operator to create virtual segments of the network dedicated to specific services. This technology ensures that critical communications, such as emergency services or merchant payment systems, remain functional and uninterrupted even during high-traffic events like music festivals.

Orange has already conducted real-world testing of the technology at several major events, including Untold, Summer Well, and concerts at Arena Națională. To complement the new network, the company is also introducing tiered service levels: ‘Everyday 5G’, providing speeds up to 500 Mbps download, and ‘Fast Track 5G+’, designed for intensive use like gaming and streaming with estimated maximum speeds of 1,500 Mbps.
