Orange signs 10-year solar energy deal in Slovakia

Orange Slovensko has signed a ten-year physical Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with the Austrian energy company Enery to source electricity from a new solar power plant in central Slovakia. The plant, located in the Banská Bystrica Region, will have a capacity of 12.5 MWp and is expected to be operational by 2027.

The facility is projected to produce approximately 15 GWh of electricity annually, which could power roughly 4,520 households. Under the agreement, Orange will purchase 125,030 MWh over the decade, covering approximately 83% of the plant’s expected output. This initiative is expected to reduce CO2 emissions by about 1,125 tons per year compared to the standard energy mix.

This move complements Orange’s existing sustainability efforts, which include solar panels installed on hundreds of its own transmitters and the use of a virtual power plant. The energy will be supplied to the public grid, with the PPA allocating the specific volume of renewable production to the operator.
