Oras warns of rising household costs due to electricity price spikes

The plumbing company Oras has released an analysis regarding the impact of rising electricity prices on household water heating costs. Based on a projected consumer price of 40 cents per kWh for the upcoming winter, the company estimates that a four-person family could spend approximately 3,000 euros annually on warm water.

According to Oras product group manager Juhani Lempinen, a single four-minute shower could cost about 1.30 euros at peak prices. The analysis notes that roughly half of the water used during showers and handwashing is wasted while people are soaping up. The company suggests that turning off the tap during soaping can halve water consumption and save hundreds of euros annually for families.

The projections follow reports of potential electricity price increases of up to 50 percent in Europe, driven by wholesale price rises in Germany.
