Orascom Construction wind project in Ras Shokeir to provide 900 MW

Egypt's Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy, Mahmoud Esmat, met with a delegation from Orascom Construction to review the progress of a 900 MW wind power project in the Ras Shokeir region.

The project is scheduled to be completed in two distinct phases. The first phase, with a capacity of 300 MW, is slated for connection to the national electricity grid by December 2027. The second phase, providing 600 MW, is expected to be completed and connected by June 2028.

During the meeting, officials also reviewed the operational status of existing Orascom projects totaling 912.5 MW in the Gulf of Suez and Ras Gharib areas. This development aligns with Egypt's national energy strategy, which aims to increase the contribution of clean energy in the national energy mix to 45% by 2028 while reducing reliance on fossil fuels.
