Orazio Schillaci outlines Italian health priorities and AMR response
Italian Health Minister Orazio Schillaci has highlighted antimicrobial resistance (AMR) as a critical global challenge requiring an integrated 'One Health' approach. Speaking at an event in Siena, Schillaci emphasized that the loss of antibiotic efficacy threatens medical procedures and patient safety, necessitating international cooperation across human, animal, and environmental health sectors.
Additionally, Schillaci announced plans to finalize a new National Health Plan before the end of the current legislature, noting that such a plan has been absent since 2008. The initiative, developed alongside regional authorities, aims to modernize the National Health Service to keep pace with scientific research. The Minister also noted the operational progress of 'Case di comunità' (community houses) as a key component of healthcare reform.
