Orbetello Mayor calls Talamone and Fonteblanda secession drive a failure
Andrea Casamenti, the Mayor of Orbetello, has labeled the signature collection drive for the secession of Talamone and Fonteblanda a “failure.” Following the conclusion of the initiative, Casamenti claimed that fewer than 25% of the residents in the two districts signed the petition to separate from the municipality.
The Mayor criticized the movement, suggesting it lacks broad local support and is driven by political interests rather than the needs of permanent residents. He noted that the number of signatories did not even reach the levels of those who typically vote against his administration.
Furthermore, Casamenti expressed concerns regarding the technical and economic viability of the secession proposal. He described the project's economic report as insufficient, stating it lacks detailed data, economic comparisons, or asset valuations, and fails to account for the millions of euros the municipality invests annually in maintaining services for the two districts.
