Orbán Viktor criticized for poor governance by former Mandiner editor

Deputy editor‑in‑chief of the Hungarian outlet Mandiner, Kacsoh Dániel, told the Spirit FM programme “Provokatőr” that “Orbán Viktor governed poorly over the last four years”. He argued the misgovernance caused the ruling Fidesz party to lose the election and plunge into a damaging defeat. Kacsoh noted that while Orbán was in the United States watching the World Cup, key domestic events – the adoption of the 17th amendment to the constitution and street protests – were unfolding at home.

The comments came amid a wave of self‑criticism from other right‑wing figures: Gulyás Gergely resigned as Fidesz faction leader over the constitutional change, and former foreign minister Péter Szijjártó announced he would leave his parliamentary mandate to join Chinese EV maker BYD. The criticism is notable for coming from a media personality close to the governing camp, a rare public attribution of responsibility for the party’s losses.
