Orbán Viktor's Party Accused of Misusing Public Funds for Propaganda

Hungarian right‑wing media figures admitted that Fidesz’s campaign messaging on the Ukraine war was losing audience support, with viewership dropping to one‑fifth of previous levels. In a radio interview, commentator Lentulai Krisztián said the party’s forced focus on “Ukrainian‑related” content caused a “herót” (disgust) among its own base.

Investigations revealed that the Logosz Alapítvány, a civil‑society foundation linked to Fidesz‑KDNP councilor Szalay Kornél Géza, repeatedly obtained public money to print and distribute party‑aligned newsletters and propaganda. Funding requests cited objectives such as “objective district information” but were used to promote candidates Németh Balázs and Zsigmond Barna Pál. Over several years the foundation received more than 20 million forint, purchasing a high‑capacity printer and producing multiple editions targeting Budapest’s XV and IV districts.
