Fidesz internal turmoil intensifies amid leadership disputes and legal challenges
Parliamentary deputy Bóka János said he would accept the Fidesz faction leadership if nominated, dismissing speculation about a split and noting Orbán Viktor’s continued involvement in internal discussions.
The party is coping with recent resignations of senior figures Gulyás Gergely and Szijjártó Péter, while rumors of Orbán meeting former U.S. President Donald Trump were publicly denied by party communications chief Havasi Bertalan.
Fidesz has lodged multiple constitutional‑court challenges against recent legislation, covering media law reforms, political advertising rules and changes to parliamentary investigation procedures, accusing the government of overreach.
The faction also demanded the immediate release of six former government officials detained under politically motivated proceedings, citing concerns over the use of “conceptual” investigations.
Additional controversy stems from the "Zsolti bácsi" affair, where opposition lawmakers allege that lawyers linked to the party facilitated bribery to fabricate accusations, prompting further legal scrutiny.
