Orca AI expands maritime platform deployment with Eastern Pacific Shipping
Orca AI is expanding its partnership with Eastern Pacific Shipping (EPS) following a successful pilot program involving five vessels and over 130,000 nautical miles of operation. EPS plans to deploy Orca AI’s maritime operations platform across dozens of additional vessels.
Data from the pilot indicated significant improvements in navigational safety. Close encounter events decreased by 48% per 1,000 nautical miles, and the average minimum passing distance increased by 10%. One specific vessel, the Pacific Sentinel, reported an 84% reduction in open-water close-encounter events and a 50% increase in minimum passing distance over a six-month period.
The technology utilizes two primary components: SeaPod and FleetView. SeaPod is installed on the bridge and uses computer vision to detect and classify objects, including non-AIS targets like buoys and fishing vessels. FleetView provides shore-based analytics, allowing teams to review operational events and use data for training and continuous improvement.
