Orchestre symphonique de Montréal opens season with Mahler
The Orchestre symphonique de Montréal (OSM) opened its 2026-2027 season at the Maison symphonique with a performance of Gustav Mahler’s works, led by conductor Rafael Payare.
The program featured selections from ‘Des Knaben Wunderhorn’, including various lieder performed by German baritone Matthias Goerne. Following an intermission, the orchestra performed ‘Das klagende Lied’, a monumental early work by Mahler that the OSM has not staged since 1989.
The performance utilized a composite score linking the original 1880 movement with later revisions. The production included a large ensemble of 92 instrumentalists and 110 choristers, with soloists Miah Persson, Rose Naggar-Tremblay, Clay Hilley, and Matthias Goerne.
