Ordem dos Médicos warns of impact from INEM strikes

Carlos Cortes, the president of the Ordem dos Médicos, has warned of the potential impact on life-saving capabilities due to upcoming strikes by National Institute of Medical Emergency (INEM) technicians. The strikes are scheduled for September 14 and 28.

Speaking during a visit to the Hospital do Litoral Alentejano, Cortes emphasized that the population must not be harmed and that INEM must maintain a full capacity to provide emergency assistance regardless of industrial action. He stated that it is “not acceptable that people may die” during such situations.

The pre-hospital emergency technicians have called for the strikes to protest the reorganization of the medical emergency system. The Sindicato dos Trabalhadores de Emergência Pré-Hospitalar indicated that current counterproposals from INEM do not meet worker demands and suggested the strikes will proceed unless the government strengthens negotiated measures.
