Ordu highway repairs begin following major landslide

Repair works have commenced on the Ünye-Akkuş-Niksar highway in Ordu, Turkey, following a major landslide in February 2026. The landslide, triggered by heavy rainfall in the Çatalpınar neighborhood, destroyed retaining walls and washed away sections of the road, cutting off access toward Ordu and Tokat.

Contractors and Highways Department teams have begun fore kazık (drilled shaft) operations to stabilize the area. Ünye District Governor Kemal Yıldız inspected the site, stating that while the project is estimated to take eight months, efforts are being made to complete the repairs sooner to restore the vital connection between the Black Sea region and Central Anatolia. The closure has impacted local residents, particularly during the hazelnut harvesting season.
