Orealla Secondary School project to be retendered after contractor failure
The Government of Guyana is preparing to retender the construction project for the Orealla Secondary School in Region Six after the previous contractor failed to meet deadlines. Education Minister Sonia Parag confirmed that the government intends to restart the tendering process as soon as possible to resume construction.
The project was originally awarded to 4S Security & Building Enterprise for $198,866,010. Construction began in September 2024 with an expected six-month completion timeline. However, the facility remained unfinished after the initial period, and a subsequent deadline of August 15, 2025, was also missed. Consequently, the contract was terminated.
Designed to serve approximately 180 students from Orealla and Siparuta, the school is intended to feature six classrooms, four specialized laboratories, and a library. At the time of contract termination, Orealla Toshao Laurence Vandenburgh reported that three buildings had been erected, with only one having a roof.
