Oregon and Washington Red Flag Warning Issued for Saturday
The National Weather Service office in Pendleton issued a Fire Weather Watch for much of Oregon and Washington on Saturday, later upgrading it to a Particular Dangerous Situation Red Flag Warning. The warning covers the Kittitas Valley, Lower Columbia Basin, Northern Blue Mountains, Canyon Grasslands of Wallowa County, Grande Ronde Valley, Eagle Cap Wilderness, John Day Valley and the Central Mountains. Conditions will include west winds of 20‑30 mph with gusts up to 40 mph, relative humidity as low as 15 percent, and warm, dry air that can cause any fire to spread rapidly. Outdoor burning is not recommended due to the heightened fire‑weather risk.
The warning is in effect from 11 am to 11 pm Pacific Daylight Time on Saturday. Residents in the affected zones are advised to stay alert for rapid fire growth and to follow local fire‑safety directives.
