Oregon DOJ declines criminal probes into alleged federal misconduct

The Oregon Department of Justice has declined to open criminal investigations into six reports of alleged federal misconduct submitted by Oregon residents. These reports were previously withheld from public disclosure due to their status as part of an ongoing investigation.

Five of the closed reports involve allegations of federal officers using excessive force and indiscriminately deploying tear gas against protesters near the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) facility in Portland. The sixth report concerns the use of munitions by federal agents against protesters outside the Eugene Federal Building in January.

A spokesperson for the Oregon Department of Justice stated that an investigator concluded the reports did not warrant full criminal investigations. The agency had previously established an Oversight and Accountability Reporting portal to allow citizens to report potential violations of law or civil rights by federal agents.
