Oregon downgrades state emergency coordination level

The Oregon Department of Emergency Management has downgraded the State-level Emergency Coordination Center to “Level-4 Steady State.” This transition indicates a reduced need for supplemental firefighting resources on the ground, though officials emphasized that wildfire risk remains high due to dry conditions.

While state agency staff previously assigned to wildfire response may return to normal roles, the Oregon Department of Forestry and the Oregon State Fire Marshal will continue regular fire suppression and monitoring activities. The state remains available to coordinate assistance through the Oregon Emergency Communications and Coordination Center.

Additionally, the Emergency Fire Cost Committee is scheduled to meet on September 8 in Salem. The committee, which oversees the Oregon Forest Land Protection Fund, will discuss the fiscal year 2026 ending balance, the financial status of the fund, and weather updates.
