During Big Ten Media Days in Chicago, Oregon head coach Dan Lanning praised the internal promotions of offensive coordinator Drew Mehringer and defensive coordinator Chris Hampton, calling the hires “home runs” as the program prepares for the 2026 season. Both men had served on Lanning’s staff for several years, filling the vacancies left by former coordinators who left for head‑coaching jobs.

At the same time, the Ducks are courting legacy recruit LaGarrette Blount Jr., the son of former NFL running back, who is also being pursued by Ohio State. Blount Jr. said he received visits from both programs and is weighing offers that highlight each school’s football tradition and academic opportunities.
