As AI adoption accelerates, governance is becoming a critical component of IT audits, including SOC 2 and ISO reviews. The rapid deployment of AI agents, copilots, and automation tools has often outpaced organizational oversight, creating gaps in records regarding what tools are running and what data they can access.

Gartner projects that task-specific AI agents will be featured in 40% of enterprise applications by the end of 2026. However, the organization also predicts that 40% of enterprises may demote or decommission autonomous agents by 2027 due to surfacing governance gaps in production environments.
