Oregon State Capitol installs universal changing table for accessibility

The Oregon State Capitol has installed a universal changing table in an accessible bathroom on the main floor to support individuals with severe disabilities. This addition was part of a nearly $600 million renovation project aimed at improving accessibility and seismic retrofitting.

Prior to this installation, caregivers and families of older children or adults with complex medical needs often lacked dedicated spaces for hygiene assistance, sometimes having to request the use of lawmakers' offices or use public hallways. The new facility was added during the final phase of the renovation following advocacy from groups such as Advocates for Disability Supports, which sought to ensure that those visiting the Capitol to lobby can do so with dignity.
