Oregon wild horse removal blocked by temporary restraining order

A judge has issued a temporary restraining order to block the U.S. Bureau of Land Management (BLM) from removing hundreds of wild horses from Riddle Mountain in Oregon. The legal action was initiated by the Oregon Wild Horse Organization, the Central Oregon Wild Horse Coalition, and the Western Watersheds Project to protect the animals' right to roam free.

The BLM argues that the removal is a necessary rescue operation, as wildfires and severe drought have destroyed 70% of the herd management area. Officials stated the horses are under immediate threat from severe food and water shortages. Don Rotell, the Burns District Manager, warned that the legal delay could prevent the roundup from occurring before autumn storms make local roads impassable.
