Oregon youth livestock auctions raise significant funds for 4-H and FFA

Youth livestock auctions in Oregon's Baker and Umatilla counties have raised significant funds for local 4-H and FFA participants.

At the 2026 Baker County Fair Livestock Auction, preliminary figures show total contributions reached $761,635. A total of 206 animals were sold by 207 young exhibitors. Notable sale averages included turkeys at $156.67 per pound and rabbits at $52.22 per pound.

In Umatilla County, a record-breaking 397 youths registered for the fair's livestock auction. The event saw high-value sales, with over a dozen animals selling for more than $10,000 and one animal exceeding $20,000. Participants sold various species, including 71 lambs, 46 goats, 54 steers, and 207 swines. Buyers typically purchase animals above market value to support the youth exhibitors' future investments and agricultural projects.
