Orehovica Council approves new regional tourism association

The Orehovica Municipal Council held its 9th session on August 31, 2026, where members unanimously approved several key decisions, including the mid-year budget execution for 2026 and the establishment of a new regional tourism association.

One of the primary initiatives is the formation of the ‘Med Murom i Dravom’ tourism community, which will unite five Međimurje municipalities: Belica, Domašinec, Donji Kraljevec, Mala Subotica, and Orehovica. Mayor Ladislav Požgaj noted that while these smaller municipalities lack the individual capacity to manage large-scale tourism development, joining forces will allow for more effective planning, joint marketing, and better access to national and European funding. The new association is expected to be headquartered at the Dr. Rudolf Steiner Center in Donji Kraljevec.

In addition to tourism, the council reviewed the municipal budget, noting a decrease in revenue and increased expenditures, including approximately 100,000 euros for a road near a kindergarten and 200,000 euros in payments to associations. The council also adopted a new regulation on simple procurement procedures to align with updated legal requirements.
