O’Reilly’s Garage enters receivership following owner's disappearance

Petone-based luxury car dealership O’Reilly’s Garage has been placed into receivership after Avanti Finance appointed BDO Wellington as receivers and managers on 21 October. The move follows the abrupt closure of the business and the disappearance of its sole director, Simon O’Reilly, who is believed to have relocated to Greece.

A search of the Personal Property Securities Register revealed 36 financing statements against the company, with Avanti Finance acting as the secured party on 29 of them. Other creditors include Kiwibank, LC Business Loans, and MTF Finance. The outstanding debts involve various high-end assets, including a 2022 Porsche 911 GT3, a 2025 Mercedes GLE 450, and a 1968 Ford Mustang.

Creditors and associates expressed shock at the sudden collapse. MTF Finance director Geoff Kenny reported that while a boat was successfully traced, other secured assets like a motorhome remain missing. Additionally, property investor Steve Goodey has raised concerns regarding the unauthorized sale of his Ferrari Portofino. The dealership's premises on Hutt Road in Petone are currently listed for lease.
