Orel Hershiser receives star on Hollywood Walk of Fame

Former Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher and current broadcaster Orel Hershiser received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in the sports entertainment category. The ceremony featured several notable figures, including Dodgers manager Dave Roberts, pitcher Clayton Kershaw, broadcast partner Joe Davis, and retired broadcaster Jaime Jarrin, with Bob Costas serving as master of ceremonies.

Hershiser, known by the nickname ‘Bulldog,’ played thirteen seasons for the Dodgers after being selected in the 17th round of the 1979 MLB draft. His career highlights include a 1988 season where he became the first pitcher to win the Cy Young Award, the League Championship Series MVP, and the World Series MVP in the same year. He also set a record with 59 consecutive scoreless innings.

This honor marks the 2,853rd star awarded since the Walk of Fame began in 1961. Hershiser is the third former major leaguer to receive the distinction, following Chuck Connors and John Beradino.
