Ores energy distribution tariffs to rise in Wallonia starting 2027
The Walloon energy regulator, Cwape, has approved a budget increase for Ores, the primary electricity and gas distribution network operator in Wallonia, for the 2026-2029 period. This decision will lead to higher distribution costs for households and industrial users starting January 1, 2027.
For an average household with a bi-hourly meter, electricity distribution fees are expected to rise by approximately 2.50 euros per month, while gas distribution fees are projected to increase by about 1.30 euros per month. These increases correspond to an 8% rise in electricity distribution fees and a 3% rise in gas fees compared to initial forecasts.
The additional funding, totaling roughly 202.9 million euros for electricity and 19.7 million euros for gas, is intended to modernize aging infrastructure. Ores cited the need to adapt the grid to the rise of electric vehicle charging stations, heat pumps, and photovoltaic panels. Furthermore, 30 million euros of the budget will be dedicated to strengthening cybersecurity against increasing digital threats.
