ORF airs 'Havana – Rum, Smoke and Revolution' documentary

The Austrian broadcaster ORF will show part two of its five‑part "Universum History" summer series on 7 August 2026 at 22:30 on ORF 2 and ORF ON. The 40‑minute documentary, titled "Havana – Rum, Smoke and Revolution" and produced by Fabian Wolf (edited by Stefan Binder), examines Havana’s glittering early‑20th‑century scene – music clubs, casinos and visits by American tourists escaping Prohibition – alongside the control exerted by the U.S. mafia, widespread poverty and the political upheaval that culminated in Fidel Castro’s 1959 revolution.

The film references famous visitors such as Ernest Hemingway, Frank Sinatra, Ava Gardner and John F. Kennedy, and it is followed by upcoming episodes on Marrakech (21 August) and Ibiza (28 August), with a special "Doco‑Dacapo" on the Côte d’Azur slated for 14 August.
