ORF Director General Selection Heats Up in Austria

Candidates include media manager Clemens Pig, former Pro Sieben Sat.1 manager Markus Breitenecker, magazine chief Lisa Totzauer, ORF‑III managing director Kathrin Zierhut‑Kunz, and late‑stage entrant Petra Höfer. The race is framed as a test of ORF’s relevance amid digital transformation, budget pressures of up to €90 million in savings, and concerns over political patronage in the public‑service broadcaster.
