Organ transplantation trends show decline in Paraguay and growth in Argentina

Recent health data reveals contrasting trends in organ transplantation across South American regions. In Paraguay, official figures from the Ministry of Public Health and the National Institute of Ablation and Transplantation (INAT) show a nearly 27% decrease in procedures over the last two years. In 2025, only 163 surgical procedures were completed, compared to 223 in 2024, resulting in 60 fewer opportunities for patients on waiting lists.

In contrast, the province of Santa Fe, Argentina, has reported significant progress in organ procurement. According to Incucai statistics, Santa Fe has completed 80 donation processes so far in 2026, contributing to 216 transplants. This accounts for approximately one in seven transplants performed nationwide in Argentina. Local health officials attribute these results to strengthened teamwork and territorial presence within the provincial healthcare system.
