Organek band records climate-themed concert near Spitsbergen

The Polish musical group Organek has recorded a concert and a music video on a small island near Spitsbergen to highlight the impacts of climate change. The performance took place on a piece of land that was recently uncovered due to melting glaciers, making the musicians only the second group of people to reach the site.

Part of the ‘Science. Music. Arctic.’ project, the initiative aims to bridge the gap between scientific research and the arts. The performance was held near the Nicolaus Copernicus University (UMK) Polar Station, which has been documenting environmental changes in the Arctic since 1975.

Lead singer Tomasz Organek described the experience as an educational tool rather than a promotional event, noting that the sound of cracking ice and melting streams provided a shocking firsthand look at the pace of glacial melting. The project includes a new song, a music video, and a documentary film intended to foster public interest in climate issues.
