Organizational transformation faces leadership and value realization challenges

Organizations often face challenges when attempting to implement large-scale transformations. While boards and shareholders frequently seek leaders to challenge the status quo, the actual process of change can encounter resistance when it impacts budgets, programs, and long-standing relationships. This is particularly evident in non-profit and government-funded sectors where stakeholders may have a low tolerance for disruption.

New analysis from Project One highlights a ‘value gap’ where the intended benefits of transformation—such as those promised by digital and AI investments—fail to reach the organization. A key contributor to this leakage is a lack of leadership alignment. When leaders provide mixed signals or fail to show consistent commitment, employees often default to familiar behaviors, preventing the realization of projected productivity gains and cost savings.
