Gheorghe Vlăduț Băltățeanu surrenders in Switzerland for murder

Gheorghe Vlăduț Băltățeanu, a 30-year-old man suspected of murdering his 28-year-old partner, Valentina Ioana Tănăsie, has surrendered to police in Saint Gallen, Switzerland. The surrender occurred on September 28, 2026, at approximately 23:00, following an international arrest warrant issued by the Vâlcea Tribunal in Romania.

The victim's body was discovered on September 22 inside a suitcase floating in the Olt River near the Ionești Dam. An autopsy revealed that Tănăsie died violently from traumatic head injuries and intracranial hemorrhage caused by a hard object.

Investigators believe the conflict occurred during a party at the suspect's residence in Tomșani, Vâlcea. Police searches at the home uncovered reddish-brown stains on a mattress suspected to be blood. Following the crime, Băltățeanu fled Romania, reportedly traveling through Hungary, Slovakia, Italy, and Austria before reaching Switzerland. He is currently in Swiss custody pending extradition to Romania.
